In May – June 2017 ARK local and international volunteers together with Kapan Municipality completed repairing the staircases leading to Halidzor fortress, one of the main sights of Kapan. This part of the trail was very dangerous and almost impassable. We built 70 stairs, fastened the barriers, concreted the landings. Special thanks to the mayor of Kapan Mr. A. Hayrapetyan for financial support and the Hakobian family who helped greatly in constructing. Mongol Rally. Englishmen at ARKThis year Mongol Rally started in London. About 500 participants continued their way to Mongolia. One of the routes runs through Kapan. We were told about it by British travelers, a father and his son, participants of the rally Who stayed at ARK on their way. Our guests were from Bristol and they travelled in an old Suzuzki Wagon. They reached Kapan having travelled through West Europe, Balkans, Turkey and Georgia. As they say travelling is the best way to improve relationships between two generations in the family. Let’s wish them good luck, a happy and interesting journey and loads of sweet memories!😀😎💪
Permaculture as ArtRecently we speak a lot about Permaculture. What is Permaculture?🤔
Permaculture is the art and science of creating “Eden Gardens” or producing food in sustainable eco systems. We began practicing Permaculture because of laziness as this is a kind of agriculture that requires minimum efforts. And then we fell in love with it. Right landscaping, wind protection , mulching make it possible to get the healthiest yield of all possible fruit, vegetables and herbs without harm to the soil and environment. We are eager to share our knowledge and experience with all those who wish! New Rehabilitation Center at ARKInitially ARK Project was planned as a rehabilitation center with holistic approach to health, i.e. combining massage, breathing exercises, pilates, yoga, training on apparatus. The center is to be located in a picturesque permaculture garden of ARK. Rehabilitation Pavilion ARK realized the first part of the project with the help of EU and World Vision grants. Now there is a multi-functional pavilion for massage and rehabilitation. Now our task is to equip the center with training apparatus. We will keep you informed! Follow us! Armen at work
Three New Hiking TrailsIn July – August ARK hosted volunteers from Czech Republic Lubomir and Christina, specialists in cartography.
They scouted and mapped three new hiking trails. - Eco Camp in Arajadzor – Baghaberd Fortress - Baghaberd Fortresss – Vahanavank Monastery - ARK Camp Kapan – Shikahogh (Center of Zangezur Biosphere Reserve) These trails gapped the bridge between Tatev and Zangezur Biosphere Reserve. Many thanks dear Lubo and Christina! Developing Permaculture with World Vision ArmeniaIn September 2016 ARK together with World Vision Armenia realized a project aimed at promoting permaculture ideas and practice in Kapan Region. Permaculture as the most progressive type of sustainable organic agriculture begins with landscaping to create most comfortable conditions for growing plants. Permacuture garden beds In climate and landscape conditions of Kapan Region the created garden beds are to keep water and humus, protect soil from wind erosion and make a good balance of light and shadow. With constriction material provided by World Vision, ARK created these very garden beds in the ARK Camp not far from Kapan. In agriculture season of 2017 ARK plans to share this innovative practice with farmers and youth of the region. We plan to hold the workshops in the pavilion built by the construction material from World Vision. The pavilion and garden beds. We express our gratitude to World Vision Armenia for their support and hope for further fertile cooperation.
On October 27 ARK was visited by a group of students from Kapan school #2. The students are interested in ecological problems, environmental issues, sustainable living and permaculture. ARK project coordinator Armen Kazaryan told them about permaculture as a system of agricultural and social design principles centered on simulating or directly utilizing the patterns and features observed in natural ecosystems. The students together with their German teacher Hasmik Hovhannesian in their turn told us about the work they have done in the framework of the international school competition "School for the environment" held by the Goethe Institute. They decorated their schoolyard and also placed there a comfortable sofa, made of 487 plastic bottles collected from the nature (rivers, fields , parks, streets).
ARK chosen by experts during "Ecopreneur for the Climate 2016” Global WeekWe are so thankful to have been given the opportunity to present at the recent "Ecopreneurs for the Climate - Global initiative" Yerevan event this October 24, 2016. We're even more thankful to have been chosen as a winner of the event to potentially represent Armenia at the upcoming COP22 Climate Summit in Marrakech, on November 7-18. In a few weeks we would have a great chance to take part in very important changes that are going to take place in social life of Armenia. We give rise to those changes when social impact will be based not just on charity but mainly on social business. ARK will be one of the 27 fundraising teams in the coming crowdfunding campaign which will raise funds to boost social entrepreneurship in Armenia. All the teams will have one common goal and a joint campaign. But individual activity of each of the teams will be a crucial criteria to get the grant announced in the framework of “Community Development through Social Entrepreneurship” program. Ten best teams out of 25 will get a 7000 EURO grant each to develop their individual social business projects. Thus taking active part in the coming crowdfunding campaign you will not enhance development of social entrepreneurship in Armenia but also help ARK to get the grant and become a sustainable eco-touristic social business.
