Mount Khustup (3,206 m) is the most recognized mountain in the region. It is the symbol of Kapan and overlooks the city with an impressive presence. There are several paths to reach Mount Khustup. ARK has chosen to take the shortest and easiest path, starting from our Kapan Ecocamp.
ARK Armenia is currently working with the Transcaucasian Trail team to scout, map and mark trails into Shikahogh State Reserve. The first trail is 10.8 km long and takes you from the peak of Mount Khustup to the village of Shishkert. From here you will be able to start exploring Shikahogh State Reserve!
Shikahogh is Armenia’s second largest forest reserve and home to about 1,100 species of plants and studies have already revealed rare species of animals such as leopard, bezoar, bear, snowcock, viper, and hedgehog.
